This 1991 BMW 750iL is a range-topping V12-powered model that has high mileage of 176k according to the description. Reportedly benefiting from over $9,000 worth of repairs and servicing performed over the last two and a half years, condition looks nice for a vehicle of this age and odometer count, and the seller adds that it recently passed smog as well. Often regarded as too troublesome, complex and costly to bother with, this inexpensive example offers an attractive entry price for 12-cylinder ownership and may just be worth a gamble. This E32 or second generation 7 Series wears Alpine White paint nicely, and looks good with subtle chrome accents on the upper portions of the exterior trim and bumpers. It’s tough to get an accurate read on the condition of everything in the varying light conditions in photos, but finish of the paint and trim looks decent from what’s shown despite a slight mismatch between the driver’s side front fender and the rest of the exterior. Things like the ride height and square dual exhaust pipes appear unmodified, and so do the chrome BBS Style 5 basketweave wheels.
The interior seems like it’s aged well with all things considered, with most visible wear seen in common places like the driver’s foot well, steering wheel rim and emergency brake handle. Leather upholstery seems to be in good shape from what’s visible, and there are no other obvious issues like de-laminating door panels, missing switchgear or otherwise. An optional cellular car phone remains in the center console, and even wood trim looks good.
The most interesting part of the car isn’t photographed, but the M70B50 SOHC (per bank) 24-valve V12 under the hood has received a fair bit of attention along with the rest of the mechanics over the past few years. These engines use mostly application-specific parts, but were heavily derived from the M20 inline-six that would be phased out less than a decade later.
The M70 V12 ushered in a new era for BMW, as it was among their first engines to require less frequent servicing thanks to its hydraulic valve lifters among other things. The same is true of the E32, as it firmly established BMW as a player in the full-size, high-line sedan segment with a technological leader. As previously mentioned, this E32 has seen a fair bit of use since new, but looks to be in good shape and hopefully has plenty of miles left to go.
