This 1962 Ogle SX 1000 is one of the more interesting and rare British coupes we’ve seen up for sale in awhile. Just 66 SX 1000’s were made before the company ceased operations in 1963 after its founder was involved in a fatal accident behind the wheel of a lightweight variant. The SX 1000 borrowed its 997cc four-cylinder, suspension and floor pan from a Mini, but with a swoopy fastback body constructed from fiberglass. The ad says that the previous owner of this example spent north of $80k USD over the last three years on extensive restoration, and the certainly presents impressively well. Find it here at Lutziger Classiccars in Bergdietikon, Switzerland for 39,900 CHF (~$42,800 USD today). Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.
This medium blue metallic is a great match for the car’s flowing lines, and finish shows very well from all provided angles. Fiberglass bodywork doesn’t exhibit any noticeable flaws, and what little brightwork there is looks tidy. A set of Minilites or even steelies might look cool here, but the currently fitted Cosmic items are a classic look for Minis too. We dig the rear bumperettes, center-mount exhaust, and Volvo 1800-esque taillamps seen below.
The leather-trimmed cabin appears to be finished to a high standard, and looks good in tan throughout. Engine information is provided by a good looking set of Jaeger instruments, and their pod is fronted by a nice Moto-Lita wheel. Deeply bolstered buckets appear comfy, and the steering wheel shows the typical Mini bus-driver angle.
The 997cc four is good for 55 HP here, and routes power to the front wheels via a 4-speed manual. Despite the modest power output, these cars could be hustled around really well thanks to a curb weight of 1,500 pounds and a well-spaced gearbox. They could also reportedly return 35 MPG on the highway and touch 90 MPH on the top end.
According to the model’s registry page, there are only half a dozen known examples within the US at last count, which means the next owner is virtually guaranteed to never see another at a meetup if the car ends up on these shores.
