A few of the comments that stood out to us yesterday:
“I had a 1997 Challenge Car – purchased from Ferrari of Houston a few years ago. I had the entire car rebuilt – engine, suspension, carbon fiber door cards. I bought the car for $35k (the threw in the engine rebuild as part of the deal – I paid for alot of the other work). All done at FoH. After the work was done, I looked into getting a title for the car to drive it on the street (I even installed headlights, a horn, and turn signals). I drove it on the street for about a month. Even if you…”
“Greetings BaT community, bidders, enthusiasts, window-shoppers, actual shoppers, etc.! Don’t be shy with your questions and let me know if you’d like to meet this magnificent beast.
Some background: I bought this car accidentally on eBay after seeing it on BaT last May (my “low” bid ended up being the high bid). When I was a kid, my mom daily drove a chestnut 1981 Series III XJ6 (seems a child seat and a husband wouldn’t fit in her Fiat 124 spider or E-Type roadster), so I’ve always been…”
“Some seven hundred and something comments on BAT (someone remind me that I need to find a life) and I’ve said “I love this” or “great car” or “wonderful” numerous times. I’ve never said this before: Here is the BEST car I’ve seen on Bring A Trailer yet! A Checker wagon with a 327…..say what you will, I’d drive this and you can keep your exotic sports car or luxury tourer.”

Even for a non-DIY owner you will find overall costs are very reasonable, nearly identical to that of a standard W210 (E320/E430). In the first year of ownership I went through my E55 top to bottom and replaced the motor/trans mounts, trans service, rear diff fluid, fuel filters, air filters, MAF, breather hoses, and some misc bits for ~$700 in parts. You’d probably be looking at closer to $1.5k at a good shop for all this work. Since then it’s just been regular oil changes…”
“O.M.G.
Stunning and seems both well-loved and well-maintained. Thx seller for an appreciative and frank, realistic, detailed writeup.
If anyone is a fan of Sir William’s original genuine XJ saloons, and ever dreamed of owning one — and what car guy alive when they were new hasn’t? — this model (DD6) surely has to be the unicorn’s unicorn and a really nice example also :D
GLWA!”
