BaT Auction: 33-Years Owned 1964 Porsche 356C Cabriolet

This 1964 Porsche 356C Cabriolet is finished in Signal Red over black and was sold new through Cotton Goff VW/Porsche of Buena Park, California. It was acquired by the seller in 1985 from the second owner and has since resided in Alabama and Minnesota. Power comes from the matching-numbers 1600cc flat-four, which is coupled to a four-speed manual transaxle. The seller has added 32k miles, primarily during summer months, including cross-country treks to Porsche gatherings and vintage racing events at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. A recent cosmetic refresh consisted of a repaint of some of the exterior panels, and then a color sanding and buffing of the entire body, polishing the brightwork, and refinishing the engine compartment. Within the last month, the engine was tuned, the chassis lubricated, and the engine oil changed in preparartion for auction. This 356C is now being offered with records back to 1965, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean Minnesota title in the seller’s name.

The instruments were originally serviced when the seller acquired the car, and they are reported to be functional. 13k miles are shown on the odometer, which is believed to have rolled twice. The seller acquired the car with 181k miles and has added approximately 32k miles over his longterm ownership. One horn has never worked during that period and still does not.

The 1600cc engine is said to have been rebuilt at 115k miles and was recently removed and cleaned. Much of the engine compartment sheet metal was refinished at that time. A new starter was also installed, and the engine was tuned. The seller performed much of the mechanical maintenance himself, including oil changes every 2,500 miles and oil sump cleaning every 5k miles, as well as annual transmission oil changes, brake fluid flushes, and wheel bearing repacking.
