This 1966 Fiat 500 F was purchased new by a Fiat manager, who reportedly drove it occasionally over the next 25 years. The second owner purchased the vehicle on May 16, 1990 and maintained it for another 25 years. Power comes from what is believed to be the original 499cc twin paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Both the engine and gearbox were rebuilt by the seller two weeks ago. In September 2017 a mechanical refurbishment was performed using OEM parts. The electrical system was gone through, new brakes and tires were installed, the suspension was refreshed, and a variety of other items were fixed as listed below. This Fiat is now being offered by a dealer in Palermo, Italy with its original registration booklet and a clean Italian title.
During the 2017 refresh new brakes, brake lines, shocks, leaf springs, and front suspension components were all installed. A picnic basket is mounted on the rear luggage rack and is further detailed in the 140+ picture gallery below.
This 500 F is equipped with correct wheels with polished hub caps. A set of whitewall Michelin XZX tires are currently installed.
Inside, the two-tone saddle and white upholstery appears to have been redone at some point and is accented with matching carpets and door panels. In 2017 the electrical system was overhauled, the speedometer cable was replaced, a new brake cable hand-piece was fitted, and new gear lever bushings were installed.
Currently the odometer shows just 10,400 kilometers (~6,500 miles), which is believed to be correct based on known history, however total mileage cannot be confirmed with documentation.
The factory 499cc two-cylinder and 4-speed gearbox were both rebuilt by the seller just before this auction. Additional work included a new clutch, oil pan gasket, gearbox gasket kit, semi-axle kit, fuel line and filter, distributor oil, engine belt, fuel pump insulator and gaskets, transmission support and new joints, plus a new starter motor. Multiple in-process rebuild pictures are included in the gallery.
This 500 F is powered by engine #1684974, which is original to the vehicle according to the selling dealer.
A start-up and engine detail video is provided above.
Over 20 additional undercarriage pictures are displayed in the gallery below.
The original Italian registration booklet accompanies the sale. Two videos of this Fiat 500 being driven are shown below:
